Also, my real surprise on that Thanksgiving 20 years ago is that the dish was sweet when I expected it to be savoury! I've come to love sweet potatoes, mashed together with real potatoes, Earth Balance (to avoid my own dairy allergies) and black pepper. Delicious! (Your friend's recipe sounds good too.)

I think there was a bit of cinnamon in there too. Very yum.

Oh, and those pink marshmallows? Weird. They are usually toasted brown.
